well hello again

So it's with a hot cup of chai, piece of peanut butter toast, and a big smile on my face, that I return to this poor neglected blog. My sister actually called me out on not posting in forever, her exact text "GIRRLLLLLL update yo blog!" Oh how I love her.

This certainly isn't the first time the blog has taken a hiatus, and I can sadly guarantee this won't be the last. However something about this break was different. It wasn't premeditated and it wasn't due from the necessity of having too much on my plate. As much as I love blogging, sometimes it is nice to just work and live life and not think about documenting/photographing/posting.

When I was in school I read a profound article for my history of photography class which delves into this phenomenon. From "In Plato's Cave" in On Photography by Susan Sontag (New York:Picador, 1973):
It seems positively unnatural to travel for pleasure without taking a camera along. Photographs will offer indisputable evidence that the trip was made, that the program was carried out, that fun was had. ... Travel becomes a strategy for accumulating photographs...Most tourists feel compelled to put the camera between themselves and whatever is remarkable that they encounter. This gives shape to the experience: stop, take a photograph, and move on.
You can read the entire article here (just fyi there are some weird things about photography being an act of aggression that I don't completely buy). Can you believe that was written in 1973? With the internet and social media, I feel like the documentation of our lives and the act of us actually experiencing our lives have become even more entangled. It's so strange to be doing something and have the thought, "this would make a great instagram photo."

However, all of this to say, YES I am going to continue to blog and photograph (and even instagram) but sometimes it's just nice to step back and live in the moment. I am actually really excited to update y'all on some of what Bluebonnet Press has been doing recently! More soon :)
